Steps are being taken to prepare a special corridor for cycling and walking from Gulabi Thota to Machavaram BRTS Bridge, according to Municipal Commissioner G. Ravibabu. The Commissioner, while participating in the ‘Cycle Day' programme, cycled from Government Music College to Padavalarevulu on the BRTS corridor and back. This is the eighth consecutive week the Commissioner conducted Cycle Day for the promotion of cycling to reduce pollution and improve health.
Other officials of the Municipal Corporation and members of the Andhra Chamber of Commerce participated in the cycle rally. The Commissioner said that every Friday was being observed as ‘Cycle Day' to reduce vehicular pollution and road accidents.
He said that as part of this endeavour a cycling and walking track will be developed on the canal bunds in Rani Garithota. The area where some houses were removed would be beautified for everyone to utilise and enjoy. Andhra Chamber of Commerce president Muthavarapu Murali Krishna said that people in the city could improve their health and reduce pollution by participating in the ‘Cycle Day' and using only cycles on Fridays.
