CPI(M): a bid to browbeat people

The activists of Communist Party of India-Marxist CPI(M) in protest against the chargesheet filed against the CPI(M) leaders B.V. Raghavulu, S. Punyavathi and others, burnt the effigy of state government here on Wednesday.

On the occasion, CPI(M) city secretary Ch. Babu Rao recalled that the Communist parties and Congress party agitated against the power tariff hike in 2000.

The people revolted against the government policy and hike in power tariff. However, the police filed case against few leaders on charges of instigating the people. The leaders were held responsible for firing that led to death of two persons. The government was trying to scare the people that the people agitations would invite false cases. The people would continue to agitate as and when the burden was imposed on them, he said.

Party city secretariat members Donepudi Kasinath, Muzzafer Ahmed, city committee members P. Sambi Reddy, G. Nataraj, ex-corporators K. Sridevi, B.Satyababu, K. Ramu and others were present.The Crime Investigation Department (CID) filed the chargesheets in the infamous Basheerbagh firing incident after 12 years.
