The Communist Party of India (CPI) has geared up to lay siege to Sub Collector's office here on January 22 to express its displeasure at the continuing power crisis.
Addressing a press conference here on Monday, CPI city secretary Donepudi Sankar said the party had chalked out a plan to intensify the power agitation. The CPI would take part in the joint agitations of the Left parties.
As part of the protest against the Government's policy on power, the party would organise protest in front of the sub collector's office and lay siege to it, he said. Referring to the party's programmes in 2012, Mr. Sankar said it had recently organised 'Avineeti pai erradandu samaram' (war against corruption by the red shirts). Hundreds of volunteers and women draped in red colour shirts and sarees took part in the march throwing a challenge to rival parties, he added.

The CPI and its frontal organisations organised protest programmes against the gang rape.
The party even demanded public hanging of the accused, he said. Bandhs against the steep hike in the prices of petroleum products were some of the programmes taken up during 2012, he said.
