CPI to celebrate 89th anniversary today

Leaders of Communist Party of India (CPI) will celebrate the 89th anniversary of the party on Thursday. The party leaders are making arrangements for the celebrations at all the party offices in the district.

CPI district party office, Mallaiah Lingam Bhavan, was decked up for the anniversary celebrations. Party activists are displaying portraits of the Communist leaders who served for the poor in the last eight decades. The party was formed after a meeting held at Kanpur on December 26, 1925.

CPI launched many agitations on inequality, providing minimum wages for labours and unorganised workers, untouchability, land struggles, minimum support price for farmers, women and child rights, problems of rytu coolies and other problems. Many leaders and party activists, who launched agitations on people’s problems, were jailed and sacrificed their lives for the poor, said CPI Guntur district secretrary Muppalla Nageswara Rao. The Hindu on Wednesday, Mr. Rao said several Communist leaders including CPI first State secretary Polepeddi Narasimha Murthy, leaders Puluru Venkata Sivaiah, Vemupalli Srikrishna, Mandapati Nagireddy, Vagilala Gopala Krishnaiah, Mallaiah Lingam, Kolla Venkaiah, Madala Nageswara Rao, and Valluri Gangadhara Rao hailed from Guntur district.

“The portraits of all the leaders who served as Guntur district secretaries would be displayed in the CPI district office on Thursday. Leaders of CPI and its affiliated unions will hoist the party flags in all village and mandal offices and celebrate the party’s 89th anniversary,” said Mr. Nageswara Rao.
