Leaders of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has asked the Central government to supply 12 cooking gas cylinders per year to domestic consumers on subsidy without any restrictions.

The party leaders have alleged that the UPA government is trying to lift subsidy on cooking gas completely to favour gas companies.

Speaking to the newsmen here on Friday, party city unit secretary Ch. Babu Rao said that gas companies and agencies were collecting Rs.3,000 to Rs.5,000 for changing the title of the connection.

The gas agencies were collecting Rs.250 per customer on the pretext of inspections and the suppliers were insisting the consumers to take gas stoves, tubes and lighters of different private companies at high prices, he alleged.

The government was trying to cancel the gas connections on some pretext and forcing to take new connections to lift subsidy completely. The State had announced supply of nine cylinders for Deepam connection holders, but no orders were issued to the gas agencies till date, he said.
