The CPI has written a letter to Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde urging him to forward their suggestion to Group of Ministers, of making Vijayawada as capital of Seemandhra if the State is divided.
Disclosing the details here on Sunday, CPI district secretary Akkineni Vanaja said that the city has the potential to be State capital as it was centrally located and has all infrastructural facilities. The railway, air and road transportation facilities were better than other cities and towns. The water was abundantly available, she said.
Referring to other suggestions, she said that the proposed IITR should be set up at Gannavaram near here, and also there was a need to develop the Bandar Port. The long-pending Super Specialty hospital must be constructed here. Three balancing reservoirs should be constructed to provide irrigation waters from Nagarjuna Sagar left canal to more than 2 lakh acre in Krishna delta. The canals should be modernised in all the constituencies like Jaggaiahpeta, Nandigama, Tiruvur, Mylavaram, and Nuzvid, she said.

The government has to encourage agri-based industries in the Krishna district. The steps to prevent inundation of city from Budameru flash floods, development of Kondapalli, Kolleru, setting up of High Court in Vijayawada, completion of Polavaram project were some of the other demands. Former MLCs Jalli Wilson and K. Subba Raju, CPI Krishna district secretariat members Ch Koteswara Rao, Ch. Rama Rao and CPI city secretary D. Sankar were also present.
