The proposed collaboration between the Thai film industry and members of the South Indian Film Chamber of Commerce (SIFCC) will soon be a reality if their current plans fructify.
Co-production of films by the two sides and hosting of Thailand-South Indian Film Festival in both the countries is being actively explored. A team comprising SIFCC’s executive committee members recently visited Bangkok to hold discussions and take further their plans in this direction. The SIFCC members are reported to have sought a single-window system for film-makers seeking permission to shoot their films in their land to which the Thai officials responded favourably, it is learnt.
“We want the Thai authorities to pave the way for a little more ease in granting permission for shootings,” said an EC member who was part of the visit. The SIFCC visit was preceded by the visit of a Thailand team of the Royal Thai Consulate General led by Acting Consul-General Pornpimol Sugandhavanija and Director of Thai Trade Centre Tharadol Thongruang, who brought a team of Thai directors to meet their SIFCC counterparts and discuss on the ways to develop collaboration between Thai and Indian film industry and also to invite the SIFCC members to their country. The Thai team included film producer Krith Boonprapruet, producer Somkiat Vithuranich and four others who met SIFCC’s Katragadda Prasad, Ravi Kottarakara and other leading directors and producers from south India. The SIFCC is the apex body of the south Indian film Industry representing producers, distributors, exhibitors and studio owners from four languages in the southern States of Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Karnataka. They produce nearly 1,800 films a year.
