Contract lecturers working in Government Junior and Degree Colleges in Krishna district staged a sit-in in front of the Collectorate demanding implementation of the Cabinet sub-committee recommendations on contract lecturers.
The Cabinet sub- committee (2011) recommended continuation of the services of the contract lecturers in order to promise them employment security. It also stressed on the need to fill the new vacancies without affecting the services of contract lecturers.
“The State government recently announced that it will recruit 5,140 lecturers, including 617 degree lecturers, in the next recruitment through AP State Selection Commission,” said Krishna District Government Colleges Contract Lecturers’ Association (GCCLA) president K.V. Nageswara Rao. “We are completely not against the recruitment. But, the Cabinet sub-committee recommendations should be implemented,” told Mr. Nageswara Rao.

According to GCCLA, estimated 75 per cent teacher vacancies in the government colleges have been filled on contract basis. There are totally 280 lecturers, including degree colleges, have been protesting for the past nine days by boycotting their duties. GCCLA general secretary G. Moses Dayakar and other lecturers said that the protest would continue till the government come up with promise to implement the Cabinet sub-committee recommendations.
