Symbols play a vital role in the election. And, to make best out of the symbol allocated is a real testing time for the contestants. Sundar Pal, an independent candidate from 51 division, has been given Television (TV) set as his symbol for the ongoing civic polls.

Mr. Pal is moving around in his division carrying a TV seeking support of the voters. At every junction he keeps the TV on a wall or hands over to his pals, to address the gatherings or passersby. Ask him how he manages the weight of TV, with a smiling face he says: “Yeah, but I need drive home the message.”

“The symbol came in handy. It is not exaggeration to say that there will not be any house or person who doesn’t know TV set. The voters easily remember the candidate every time he or she sees the TV, he says.

In fact, in last election also TV was allocated to him. He narrowly missed the election. Mr. Pal says that he was a loyal party worker of Congress for nearly 23 years. The party did not recognise the service and gave ticket to others. Later, he joined YSR CP expecting bright future. In last leg, an outsider was fielded. “The locals wanted to contest the poll as independent. I stood in second position in last civic polls though I contested as an independent candidate,” he recalls.
