The number of Telugu Desam MLAs in the State Assembly has fallen to 74 with the last leaving the party on the day the party leader and former Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu ended his padayatra, Vijayawada Central MLA Malladi Vishnu, has said.
Addressing a press conference at the Andhra Ratna Bhavan here on Sunday Mr.Vishnu said that the people were aware that Mr. Naidu preferred to do his padayatra in the cool of the night and in darkness. “As soon as the sun came up, he went into the shade,” Mr. Vishnu said, comparing it with the padayatra of former Chief Minister Y.S.Rajasekhara Reddy who walked mostly in the sun.
Mr. Vishnu said that the former Chief Minister was talking as if he cared for the dalits, but he was absent from all the discussions on the SC/ST Sub plan in the House. This was enough to show his concern for them as the leader of the opposition.

The MLA condemned the words Mr. Naidu used to describe Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy and said that they were completely unbecoming of a person of his stature.
Challenging Mr. Naidu for a public debate on the development of the State during the Telugu Desam and the Congress regimes, the MLA said the administration in the State totally failed and the people suffered while the TDP was in the helm of affairs.
District Congress Committee president Naraharisetti Narasimha Rao, city president Adapa Nagendra, working president M. Rajeswara Rao and others were present.
