Competitions, lectures mark Ramanujan’s birth anniversary

APCOST officials conducting Srinivasa Ramanujan's birth anniversary celebrations in Vijayawada on Monday.

The birth anniversary of noted mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan was celebrated on a grand scale in Krishna district on Monday. Many schools and colleges organised competitions on mathematics and arranged lectures.

At a programme held at the A.P. State Council of Science and Technology (APCOST), Vijayawada Regional Science Centre (RSC) in-charge J. Dilleswara Rao explained the importance of mathematics in education, and the hard work done by Ramanujan .

Resource persons — S. Satish, R. Hari Venkata Kishore and J. Srinivas — explained the students on the experiments done by Srinivasa Ramanujan through a power point presentation. They gave suggestions on how to simplify the mathematics and solve them.

Competitions

Students of NRI-Indian Springs School, Gollapudi, bagged first and second prizes in the essay writing and quiz competitions organised by APCOST. V. Divya Sri, Ch. Likitha and D. Dushyanth and V. Naveena of Indian Springs School received the first and the second prizes in the events respectively.

K. Priyanka of A.P. Residential Minority Girls School, Vidyadharapuram and S. Kiranmai of NRI-Indian Springs School bagged third prizes in essay and quiz competitions.

Management of Potti Sriramulu Chalavadi Mallikharjuna Rao College of Engineering and Technology conducted maths quiz and essay writing competitions in connection with the birth anniversary of mathematician Ramanujan.

College principal K. Nageswara Rao, faculty J.A.V. Ravindra Babu, A. Ramadevi. T. Lakshmi Devi and other staff participated.

At a programme held at Kakaraparti Bhavanarayana (KBN) College here, institute principal V. Narayana Rao appealed to the students to emulate the great mathematician who made several experiments on the subject.

Mathematics head of the department M. Venkateswara Rao and others participated.

Students and staff of Montessori Mahila Kalasala and Siddhartha Mahila Kalasala celebrated the birth anniversary of Ramanujan on a grand scale. The students performed a skit on the lift of Ramanujan on the occasion.
