The city wore a deserted a look since Thursday due to thin presence of people on roads owing to Sankranti, bringing relief to the traffic police.

While a majority of the families left to their native places on the city suburbs and neighbouring districts, others remained indoors spending time with their near and dear ones. The ever-busy One Town, Besant Road, Bandar Road, Eluru Road, Benz Circle and Patamata that used to teem with hundreds of vehicles daily, did not witness heavy rush as commercial establishments, eateries and government offices remained closed.

Vehicle owners used to spend at least 30 minutes to reach the junction at the Police Control Room (PCR) from Autonagar Gate but the travel time was cut down by half on Thursday and Friday, said a traffic police official. He said that the same situation was likely to continue till Sunday. Motorists said they enjoyed the drive with their friends as traffic was less on M.G. Road.
