The Confederation of Indian Industry, AP Chapter, will make an effort to put pressure on the government to ensure that infrastructure projects such as the Machilipatnam Sea Port and the Gannavaram airport expansion are grounded.

At a CII members’ meeting here on Wednesday, CII State Chapter chairman B. Ashok Reddy said it had done extensive study of the potential of developing industrial corridor in the four coastal districts of West Godavari, Krishna, Guntur, and Prakasam, and submitted a KGPG Report to the government in March. A monitoring cell of the CII would ensure the blueprint was implemented by coordinating with the State government and other implementing agencies.

Mr. Ashok Reddy said that completing the sea port project at Machilipatnam and expanding the runway of the Gannavaram airport were essential to bring additional investment in the industrial sector and importing agriculture produce from the region.

The IT sector would also get a major boost with the CII preferring to bring the new units to Tier-II and Tier-III cities. The CII members, at a press conference, said that it proposed to generate 35 million job by 2022. Farmex-2013 was proposed in Vijayawada by the year-end.

Others who attended the meeting included CII Vijayawada chairman M. Lakshmi Prasad and CII Director S. Kannan.
