The passing of 60 years after Rabindranath Tagore’s “Janaganamana” got included into the Indian Constitutions was celebrated in a novel way in Krishna district on Friday. A record number of 1.5 lakh children from about 320 schools in Krishna district sang the national anthem at the same time. The children were made to sing the national anthem six times for the passing of six decades.
Guinness Record Holder Guzal Srinivas led the children in singing the national anthem at the programme held in Montessori College.
The ambitious programme was conducted by the Lions Clubs International to promote the national anthem and also find a place for the celebration in the Guinness Book of World Records. The required documentation will be forwarded to the Guinness Book of World Records for its assessment.

The national anthem written by Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore has a history of 102 years. The song which was sung for the first time in 1911 was included in the Indian Constitution as the National Anthem on January 24, 1950. It was first translated into English in 1919 at the Besant Theosophical College in Madanapalle in Andhra Pradesh. The students of the college sang the song in public for the first time in the presence of Tagore on February 28, 1919.
