Clearing the air over the delay in completion of Polavaram Right Main Canal, the Irrigation Engineer-in-Chief M. Venkateswara Rao said the full fledged works, including apron works, retaining walls construction etc will be completed by next June.
Excepting for 20 per cent works, all the works have been completed. Before the commencement of next Kharif, all the works will be completed.
Withdrawal of Godavari river from Pattiseema and Tadipudi projects would be stopped by November and works would be expedited, he said while addressing media persons here on Thursday.

Over the delay in Pattiseema project works, Mr. Rao informed that four motors out of the 24 motors had arrived at the site and the rest were in transit from China, Bhopal and Kolkata. By next week, another four would be reaching the site, he said.

Similarly, of the 24 pumps, two pumps were installed and the rest would be installed as and when they arrive in phased manner.

About the controversy surrounding usage of a motor from Handri-Neeva, he replied that the motor was used only as standby and would be sent back in a week.
On aqueduct caving in at Thammileru rivulet, he said only the sidewall of the aqueduct had collapsed due to soil erosion beneath the structure.
“It was a temporary structure and now we are constructing, two 15-metre wide troughs on either side of the existing trough to facilitate smooth passage of water over Thammileru stream,” said Mr. Rao.
The expert committee had already inspected the site and suggested few rectification measures. All the rectification and construction of two more troughs would be completed by this month end.
