Vijayawada MP Lagadapati Rajagopal announced that additional land would be given to the Vijayawada Book Festival Society for the development of a children's section.
Addressing a gathering at the Vijayawada Book Festival after participating in the ‘Walk for Books', the MP said on Wednesday that he had spoken with Municipal Commissioner G. Ravi Babu about the sanctioning of additional land for the development of a children's section.
Mr. Rajagopal said that “a good reader will make a good leader.” He said reading improved general knowledge, individuality and a proper world view that were needed for a person to become a good leader.

Funds for libraries
Mr. Rajagopal said that Rs. 25 lakh had been sanctioned for libraries in Krishna district and more funds would be garnered for the purpose. He urged all to make use of libraries.
Vijayawada Police Commissioner N. Madhusudhana Reddy said that the moral values of the younger generation were deteriorating to a great extent because they did not have the reading habit. They were wasting their precious time playing videogames and watching bad programmes on television.

Writer Ampasayya Naveen participating in the meeting said that he was the writer he was today mainly because of his reading. His writing had got him the Sahitya Akademy award. Saying that he was a classmate of Visalandhra editor C.Raghavachari, Mr Naveen recalled the long hours he and his friends spent reading books.
