The State will soon have a new feather in its cap in the form of a Birla Institute of Technology and Sciences (BITS) as Aditya Birla Group chairman Kumar Mangalam Birla gave his in principle nod to a proposal to this effect mooted by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu.
Mr. Naidu made the request for setting up an institution affiliated to BITS Pilani in the State when Mr. Birla called on him on Thursday. The government was prepared to allocate the necessary land for the purpose in Visakhapatnam district.
Mr. Naidu expressed his willingness to allocate land to Birla Group if it proposed to set up an international school in Visakhapatnam district and Mr. Birla positively responded to the request.

According to an official press release, the Chief Minister directed the officials concerned to issue no objection certificate to Ultra Tech cement company for setting up its facility in 1,866 acres in Dachepalli mandal of Guntur district.
The Industries Department officials were directed to clear the prospecting licence in 1,258 hectares at Tangeda within a week. The Guntur Collector had been asked to coordinate with CMO Principal Secretary Satish Chandra in this regard.
Meanwhile, the Chief Minister will leave for Gujarat on Friday to participate in the Pravas Bharati Divas being conducted there. He will deliver the keynote address at the event being attended by Chief Ministers of 10 States.
