Consumers must know their rights and be proactive in protecting them, said speakers at the Fifth Convocation of Montessori Mahila Kalasala (MMK). They praised the college management for introducing a course in ‘consumerism’ for girls.
South Central Railway Vijayawada Divisional Railway Manager Pradeep Kumar said at the convocation here on Friday that consumers, particularly women, should be aware of the quality, price, date of manufacture, expiry, guarantee period and other details while purchasing an article.
Appreciating the services of Montessori Educational Institutions for rendering quality education for the past five-and-a-half decades, Mr. Pradeep Kumar thanked MMK Director and Correspondent V. Koteswaramma and the staff for introducing need-based courses for girls.

Indian Medical Association former president G. Samaram explained about the quality of products maintained in other countries, when compared to India. He called upon the students to sensitize the public on consumerism.
Dr. Koteswaramma highlighted the activities of the institution. Every person has a right to approach the Consumer Forum at the District and State levels and a petitioner can himself/herself file the complaint without any fee and advocate, she said.
The DRM distributed certificates to the students who completed Advanced Diploma in Consumerism, Diploma in Consumerism and PG Diploma in Pre-Primary Education courses.

They presented mementos to District Consumer Forum – II former president T. Rama Raju, A.P. Consumer Organisations coordinator Chadalawada Haribabu and CPI (M) leader Ch. Babu Rao.
Joint Collector P. Usha Kumari attended the programme. College Consumerism Department head P.V.V. Satyanarayana Murthy, Vijaya Krishna Super Bazar managing director Bhairava Murthy and others participated.
