APCOST celebrates National Science Day

Projects were displayed on working of kidney, using geometrical figures in planting trees etc.

The Andhra Pradesh State Council of Science and Technology (APCOST), Regional Science Centre, celebrated National Science Day on Wednesday.

Students of higher classes of various private and government schools participated in the science day and exhibited models on different topics. Vijayawada Municipal Corporation Chief Engineer Kondal Rao, Deputy Education Officer Durga Prasad, lecturer T. Sri Kumar and others visited the projects.

Projects were displayed on proof of Pythagarous theorem, working of kidney, using geometrical figures in planting trees, modern energy efficient township and disadvantages on use of cell phones attracted the visitors, said APCOST Regional Science Centre in-charge officer J.D. Rao.

Officials of APCOST also conducted essay writing for students and distributed prizes to the winners. The winners were: Project presentation- E Ashok Kumar (ZP School Pedasenagallu), K. Vamsi Krishna Reddy (Gampalagudem), Md. Meher (Teja Vidyalaya, Kodada). S. Harshita, KGS Meghana, V. Siva Bhargavi, and B. Rohita.

Essay writing winners were: J. Guna Sundari (APR Minority Girls School Vidyadharapuram), Ch.Bhargav Reddy (Netaji High School, Bhavanipuram), and Sk.Sharukkhan (Mahita Public School, Bhavanipuram).

Later speaking at a seminar on food security, resource person Sri Kumar explained about genetically modified crops. He stressed the need for increasing production of good grains to meet the demand. There would be lot of changes in agriculture field after 2020 and the farmers have to be prepared to face them, he said.
