Amaravati abuzz with marathon runners

About 5,000 people turn up for three races

5K run saw the highest participation at the Amaravati Marathon in the capital region on Sunday.

A large number of foot racers enthusiastically took part in the fourth edition of Jio Amaravati Marathon in the capital region on Sunday making the seed access road between Venkata Palem (also called as Venkataya Palem) and Mandadam the most happening place.

The race was held in three circuits – 21K (half marathon), 10K and 5K – in which professionals and fitness enthusiasts of all ages took part. Thadikonda MLA Sravan Kumar, Housing Corporation MD Kantilal Dande, Minister N. Anand Babu and Special Chief Secretary (Sports, Youth Affairs) L.V. Subramanyam and others flagged off the events.

The first person to finish the half marathon was Appa Rao in 1.19 hours, followed by Sivaji P. (1.20 hours) and M.S. Teja (1.23 hours). In the women’s category, Vadde Navya, Naganjali and Durga finished it in 1.33, 1.59 and 2.01 hours respectively.

In the 10K run, Naidu Sallam finished the race in 32 minutes followed by Ramesh Chandra in 33 minutes, K. Sankara Rao in 34 minutes in men’s category. Priyanka, Soujanya and Devi Durga finished the 10K circuit in 43, 44 and 51 minutes respectively in the women’s category.

Organisers claim that close to 5,000 people participated in the race – 700 in the half marathon, 1,500 in the 10K run and 2,800 in the 5K run.
