AIR-Vijayawada’s ‘Clean India’ programme wins award

All-India Radio, Vijayawada, has bagged the first prize in special topic category on ‘Clean India’ theme.

The producers of the programme are senior grade announcers K. Vijaya Kumari and B. Jayaprakash. The production team comprises Radha Rani, Aparna and technical assistance was given by P. Vidyasagar.

The programme focussed on rural sanitation, projecting a small island village, Regullaka, which is adopted by a local NGO Arthika Samatha Mandali. The village got Ecosan toilets constructed for all the houses with the help of the NGO thus eradicating the problem of open defecation and became a role model.

Experiences of villagers before and after the sanitation movement in their village were recorded and the problem of urban sanitation was also highlighted.

The evolution of the idea of Gandhiji on sanitation to movement of Swachh Bharat of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the current Indian context is conveyed through freedom fighter Arjuna Rao. The programme also includes excerpts from Mr. Modi’s mann ki baat and promotional ads by film stars.
