All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA) members staged a dharna in front of Sub Collector’s office on Wednesday, demanding that the State government implement the loan waiver scheme immediately to pass on the benefits to women’s groups.

Addressing the gathering, CPI(M) corporator Gade Adilakshni, AIDWA city secretary K. Sridevi and others said that they welcomed the government’s move to waive loans up to Rs. 1 lakh taken by the DWCRA/DWCUA groups’ members. But, there were many groups that availed loans upto Rs. 5 lakh. So, the groups have not been benefited much with the government decision. The Telugu Desam Party has promised that it would waive of all the loans during elections. But, took an u turn after coming to power, they said.

The self-help groups were expecting that the government would waive of the loans and not repaying their loans for last three months. The bankers have withdrawn amount from their accounts without their knowledge as the loans were not repaid. The government should take necessary steps and give guidelines to the bankers, they said.
