For the teachers and students of Nalanda Vidya Niketan, it was a moment to cherish as B. Srividya (skating) and J. Akshit (chess) of the school's primary wing, made their mark in the recently-concluded tournaments.
B. Srividya, a Class V student, bagged gold and a silver medal in the 57th inter-district meet organised by School Games Federation recently at Kakinada. Srividya bagged the coveted gold in the speed road race and silver in the rink.
“This encouraging performance has paved way for her selection for the National Skating Championship to be held at New Delhi from December 25 to 29,” said school Principal M. Padmaja at a press conference here on Wednesday.

Srividya, who bagged medals in the district and state meets, has been honing her skill under the watchful eyes of coaches Sarath Kumar and Satish Kumar since 2009.
Juluru Akshit Kumar, Class IV student, acquired his international rating in chess by hauling 1494 (Elo) points while taking part in a tournament at Chennai recently.
A trainee at Global Chess Academy, Akshit has won a good number of medals in the under-7 and under-9 tournaments at the district and state level.

“Akshit has a natural flair for chess and has all the ingredients to achieve glory in the game of sixty-four squares,” said Mr. Sk. Khasim his coach. Akshit is preparing for a bigger task as he will be playing at a Grand Master tournament in December. “We give equal importance to extra curricular activities along with education for the overall development of the students,” she said. School academic director M. Venkateswara Rao and others took part in the meeting.
