The Dr.N.T.R. University of Health Sciences will be the first medical university in the world to have a dedicated American Heart Association (AHA) International Training Centre. The ITC at NTR Health University will be the third in the State, but the first in a medical university, Dr Rao said.

Health University Registrar T. Venugopala Rao, who just returned from the United States of America, where he went to attend several meetings and continuing medical education (CME) programmes, told The Hindu that the AHA had agreed in principle to collaborate with the University to establish an International Training Centre (ITC).

The AHA had 200 ITCs in 84 countries all over the world. There are 18 ITCs in India and two in Andhra Pradesh, one in EMRI and the other in Apollo Hospital, both in Hyderabad. The centre will be instrumental in formulating curriculum for medical students in Basic Life Support, Advanced Cardiac Life Support and Paediatric Advanced Life Support courses, he said. Dr. Rao said that the University had also entered into an understanding with the American Association of Physicians of Indian origin (AAPI) to do collaborative work on diabetes nd non-communicable diseases.
