Tributes paid to Ambedkar

The 120th birth anniversary of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar was celebrated on a grand scale across the city on Wednesday.

Vijayawada Municipal Corporation organised the celebrations at the statue of Ambedkar opposite Tummalapallivari Kshetrayya Kalakshetram, where Mayor M.V. Ratna Bindu and Commissioner G. Ravi Babu offered floral tributes to the late Ambedkar and addressed the gathering.

Ms. Ratna Bindu said Ambedkar was a visionary, who had underscored the need for reservations for women in politics. Mr. Ravi Babu stressed the need for uplifting the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes. Deputy Mayor S.P. Gritton and corporators were present.

Members of the Scheduled Caste department of the Krishna District Congress Committee garlanded the statue of Ambedkar opposite Tummalapallivari Kshetrayya Kalakshetram.
