After facing strong criticism over the defacement of city roads and thoroughfares owing to the haphazard and irregular installation of advertisement banners and flexis, the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) has decided to allow temporary installation of banners at select locations in the city.

Putting up advertisement banners and flexis will be permitted for only one day, for which individuals or organisations will have to take prior permission from the municipal corporation. VMC Commissioner G. Veerapandian, who inspected several localities in the city on Monday, said in a press release that the Corporation officials had already identified more than 100 locations in the city and individuals or organisations will be charged Rs.10 per square metre space for installing the banners.

The release also had made it clear that it would be the responsibility of the individuals or organisations to remove the publicity material after one day, failing which, the corporation would be levying a penalty.
