Representatives of the Tax Payers’ Association (TPA) demanded that the Municipal Corporation authorities withdraw the proposal of adopting the public private partnership (PPP) model to lay pipelines and issue new drinking water connections in the city.
At a press conference, TPA secretary M.V. Anjaneyulu said that involving private firms in the water supply system was not safe and indicated commercialisation of drinking water. “Handing over water supply to private firms is nothing less than approving water meters to charge people. The corporation is doing it to utilise Amrut scheme funds but the scheme is just similar to the JNNURM which pushed VMC into debt,” Mr. Anjaneyulu said.
TPA president V. Sambireddy said that the corporation first had to focus on setting up storage facility for at least five TMC feet water keeping in mind the future needs as the population was going up gradually.

Mr. Sambireddy further requested Mayor and Municipal Commissioner to reconsider the decision of privatising water supply.
