Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy

YSR Congress president Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy tweeted on Sunday that by inviting and then restraining MLA R.K. Roja from participating in the National Women’s Parliament (NWP), the organisers made a mockery of the event. He stated that all appropriate forums would be moved on the issue.

“If the government treats an MLA in such a way, what safety do women have in society?” he questioned, a day after Ms. Roja was allegedly detained by the police at the Gannavaram airport before she proceeded to the venue of the NWP.

Ms. Roja alleged that she was held up at the airport on her arrival from Hyderabad in spite of showing the invitation, and took strong objection to the contention of the police that she would have created trouble at the event.

YSRC to move HC

Staff Reporter in Rajamahendravaram writes:

The YSRC will file a petition in the High Court and the Human Rights Commission for preventing Ms. Roja from participating in the NWP, said party MLA from Chittoor Chevireddy Bhaskar Reddy.

“Andhra Pradesh is now under dictator rule. Ms. Roja’s detention has proved this. When the government is against her participation in the event, why should it extend an invitation to her?” he asked addressing the media here.

He said the “preventive measure” by the police at the Vijayawada airport had proved that the government had no respect for women.

“Is this the way of treating a legislator?” he asked.

Party leader Rowthu Suryaprakasa Rao was present.
