Rallies mark YSR's death anniversary

Recollecting the memorable moments of former Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy's padayatra in the district in the past, the speakers at a meeting held on his first death anniversary here on Thursday termed him as a champion for the cause of the downtrodden .

Rallies, meetings and charity activities marked the first death anniversary of YSR all over the district.

Participating in a meeting held at Baktha Ramadasu Kala Kshetram in the town, the Minister for Cooperation R. Venkat Reddy said that YSR conducted a week long padayatra in the district to wipe the tears of the poor and distressed while he was the Congress Legislature Party leader in 2003.

“He had spent four days in the hitherto Sujathnagar constituency,” he recalled and added that YSR contributed his mite for the welfare of the tribals by distributing pattas to scores of tribals under the ‘Recognition of Forest Rights' Act in the district during his tenure as the Chief Minister.

Welfare schemes

YSR implemented a wide range of welfare schemes meant for all underprivileged sections particularly the poor farmers and strived for the development of the State in all spheres, he said.

The Zilla Parishad Chairman G. Vijayalaxmi, the Collector N. Nageshwara Rao, the Joint Collector M. A. Azeem, the Additional Joint Collector Subash Chandra Bose and others were present.

Earlier, the Minister participated in ‘Amara Jyothi'.
