Railway stations to have more facilities, says DRM

Stating that the performance efficiency index of Vijayawada railway division has improved a lot and stands presently at 73.16 per cent, Divisional Railway Manager Vashishta Johri on Wednesday said that the focus was now on improving facilities at railway stations.

Mr. Johri, who chaired the 111{+t}{+h} Divisional Railway Users Consultative Committee (DRUCC) meeting of Vijayawada Division here, said that the division registered a record freight loading of 16.08 million tonne and earned Rs. 1,500 croresduring the financial year 2009-10.

He said facilities would be improved in the railway stations of Kakinada Town, Nellore and Bapatla to get ‘Adarsh station' status.

Plans were afoot to construct multi-functional complexes in Vijayawada, Nellore and Rajahmundry and additional facilities would be provided at Gudur station.

The members of the committee appreciated the ongoing developmental works at various railway stations of the division and sought introduction of new trains and stoppages for various existing trains at different stations, besides improving passenger amenities at small stations.

Later, the members unanimously elected G. Babu Rao member of the Zonal Railway Users Consultative Committee.
