A coordinated effort involving officers of the Railway Protection Force (RPF), the Government Railway Police (GRP) and the district police is being put in place in Guntur district to curb train robberies. At a meeting held at District Police Office here, Superintendent of Police D.S Chauhan, RPF Divisional Security Commissioner P.V.L. Shantaram and GRP DSP D. Nagaraju resolved to form special teams and beef up surveillance in vulnerable areas along the Guntur-Miryalaguda railway line.
Deputy Superintendents of Police of Guntur, Tenali, Narsaraopeta and Bapatla were instructed to man the surveillance. A detailed review of the past crime history of known gangs was also taken up at the meeting and their modus operandi was discussed.
“It is becoming difficult to zero in on the criminals since none of the complainants have seen the miscreants, who have snatched ornaments under the cover of darkness. The whole action hardly lasts 5-6 minutes,” said a senior official.

It was also decided to set up control rooms in the GRP stations and orders had been issued to SIs to keep a tight vigil on movements on platforms. With both the RPF and GRP beset by shortage of manpower, the district police had taken a commendable step in offering their support.
