Movement for Samaikyandhra lukewarm in Krishna district

The elected representatives of Krishna district were the first to announce their resignation to protest against the Central government’s proposal to divide the State into two, but the movement for ‘Samaikyandhra’ (an integrated state) has turned lukewarm now.

The JAC students of Andhra University and Acharya Nagarjuna University are displaying greater grit giving ultimatum to their elected representatives. The statements of Vijayawada MP Lagadapati and the following “high drama” which resulted in his arrest have earned the permanent name ‘antics’, with his detractors alleging that they were counter productive to the cause.

The city Congress committee in a countdown to the January 28 Central government deadline lunched a relay hunger strike on Tuesday.

The relay fast turned out to be eyewash with the party workers who posed for lensmen in the morning wound up a little after lunch time. City Congress working president Meesala Rajeswara Rao started the relay fasts on the first two-days with his presence and Vijayawada Central MLA Malladi Vishnu is scheduled to inaugurate the relay fast on the third day on Thursday.

The Youth Congress is, however, showing more enthusiasm in promoting the cause of a unified State. Vijayawada Parliamentary constituency Youth Congress president Devineni Avinash submitted a letter about the Telugu Desam Party to the statue of the party founder N.T. Rama Rao on Tuesday.

Youth Congress activists formed a human chain at the busy Benz Circle in another programme on Wednesday.

Mr. Rajagopal is away in New Delhi to meet the party leaders and help them make a decision in favour of a united State. Some of his followers say the statement of Andhra Pradesh in-charge Gulam Nabi Azad that the Telangana activists were agitating more did not hold water. Their protest will be “silent” and not “violent”, the new slogan Mr. Rajagopal has been repeating of late
