In another incident of landslip in the city, a water tank belonging to the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) was totally damaged on Monday night.

Huge boulders rolled down from a nearby hill in Ghulam Mohiuddin Nagar, damaging the water tank that has a capacity to hold 1 lakh gallons of water.

The pumpsets and other machinery have, however, not been damaged, the officials said on Tuesday.

In the mishap, Bellapu Sriramulu VMC Primary School was also damaged. Apart from this, a private house too suffered damage.

No casualties

However, no casualties were reported. In the incident, a person, who was taking rest in his house, suffered minor injuries.

The corporation officials said they would be able to assess the actual damage only after removing the debris.

It might take two to three months to restore the water tank if it could be repaired. The water supply would be disrupted to about 15,000 to 20,000 people living in the localities falling under the water tank serving area, they said, adding that till then water would be pumped directly from the reservoir to households.
