Keralites celebrate Onam in city with gusto

Keralites from Vijayawada and Guntur took part in Onam celebrations organised by Kerala Club, Vijayawada, with gusto here on Sunday The club also celebrated its 20 anniversary on the occasion. Cultural programmes, which were organised to mark the event, left everyone spellbound.

Dignitaries attend celebrations All India Congress Committee Secretary Tom Vadakkan, Bharatiya Janata Party national executive member C.K. Padmanabhan and other dignitaries from the community attended the event.

The participants said Onam was a unique festival, which loudly spoke about peace, coexistence, brotherhood and unity.

Club secretary P.V. Sathyanandan said Keralites settled in Vijayawada worked in different fields. Some were working in private and government offices, while a few others were into business. More than 100 families reside in Vijayawada, Guntur and Mangalagiri.

“It was like a get-together today, as the community people actively took part in the celebrations,” he said.
