If dance is miracle, she celebrates it

Choosing between a software job and dance, Challa Bala Tripura Sundari is making waves with her Kuchipudi performances across the country

This choice is never going to be easy. Choosing between a cushy software job and a being danseuse dedicated to her art is not an easy one. Challa Bala Tripura Sundari, Kuchipudi danseuse, who has already created waves with her performances across the country, is raring to go.

Born in 1989 at Tenali, known for its liberal patronage of arts and culture, Tripura Sundari made her “arangretam”, in 1995 with a performance at the local festival. Since then, she has never looked back.

Being the only daughter, her parents, Challa Gurunadha Rao, Venkata Vijaya Lakshmi motivated her to pursue her passion. She started dancing at the age of four and was under the tutelage of a dance teacher.

By the time Bala completed Intermediate, she acquired diplomas in ‘Yaksha Gana’ and ‘Kuchipudi’ dance streams. During graduation in ANU, she won first prize in Kuchipudi dance successively for three years. Success soon followed and Bala won gold medal in creative dance performance in south zone Inter University competitions.

Mean while, she enrolled for M.Sc (Computer Science) and was selected to work in a reputed in a software firm through campus selections. But Bala spurned the lucrative offer and instead decided to focus on her passion.

“It was my dream to dance at Pallavostavam in Mysore and dance celebrations at Thanjavur. My performances were appreciated at Island Tourism festival,” Bala said. Her performance as ‘Mahishasura Mardini’ is widely appreciated.
