Heavy rain lashes city, cripples life

Power supply hit; roads at Autonagar, Mogalrajpuram get submerged. The heavy downpour that started around 9.45 p.m. and continued till midnight, catching people off guard.

Sharp showers accompanied by thunder and lightning lashed the city late on Friday night, bringing in the much-needed respite for denizens from the searing heat. While heavy rain lashed the neighbouring districts and a few mandals in Krishna district during the day, the city did not get rain till evening, except for a drizzle.

However, overcast conditions prevailed earlier in the day.

The heavy downpour that started around 9.45 p.m. and continued till midnight, catching people off guard, and many had to take shelter in front of commercial outlets and under trees.

Power supply got disrupted in a few areas, and roads at Autonagar, Mogalrajpuram, Tekkle Road, Low Bridge Kaleswara Rao Market and some areas of One Town were flooded.

54 mm rain

According to officials, the district received 54 mm rainfall on Friday.

Kalidindi mandal received the highest rainfall of 20.2 mm and the lowest of 2.2 mm was recorded at Pedana mandal. Of the 50 mandals in the district, majority did not receive rainfall. There were reports of paddy bags getting damaged at Gannavaram, Kaikalur and Gudivada.
