The West Godavari district Child Welfare Committee (CWC) has directed the District Education Officer (DEO) to submit a report on the fee structure being followed in private schools and the system in place to check donations and collection of exorbitant fees.

Following a complaint lodged by a student of Ganapavaram mandal in the district on collection of hefty fees by a school management, CWC Chairperson T.N. Snehan issued directions to DEO Madhusudhan Rao to submit details on the activity of the District Fee Regulatory Committee, Prohibition of Screening Tests and Collection of Capitation Fee and implementation of the Right to Education Act.

The CWC will have the authority to provide care, protection, treatment and rehabilitation to children under Section 29 (2) of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act 2015.

Notice to orphanage

Recently, the Committee has issued a notice to a school-cum-orphanage in Jeelugumilli mandal for collecting high fees from students and the matter is under verification. In the present case, the student alleged that the school management is not issuing the Transfer Certificate (TC) for the last one year and is demanding a huge amount.

Under the Right to Education Act Rule (8), every private school shall allot 25 per cent seats to disadvantaged and poor children. The DEO has been directed to submit the details in 15 days, said CWC members Ch.P.V.N. Lakshmi and U. Raj Kumar.
