Reacting strongly to the Bharatiya Janata Party's act of burning the effigy of local MP L. Rajagopal in the city, the Congress activists on Thursday burnt the effigy of the BJP and submitted a memorandum to the Police Commissioner, seeking action against the BJP activists, who resorted to the burning of the MP's effigy.

Expressing their resentment over Mr. Rajagopal's allegation that the BJP masterminded the communal violence in the Old City of Hyderabad, the BJP activists had burnt the effigy of the MP at Vijaya talkies centre on Wednesday and made it clear that the BJP had no role in the ongoing violence in the State's headquarters.

Women workers of the Congress headed by Tummala Padma took exception to the BJP's act and burnt the effigy of the BJP at Lenin Centre. The activists staged a ‘funeral procession' and Ms. Padma held the BJP responsible for many communal riots that took place in the country.

They urged the police to register cases against the BJP activists.
