Some mischief-mongers trying to disrupt discipline, says principal

Students of Gowtham Degree College, who were not allowed into classes for not paying fee, expressing their ire against the management in Vijayawada on Wednesday.

Students of Gowtham Degree College at Benz Circle here have alleged that the college management is threatening to prevent them from writing examination and harassing on petty issues.

However, the principal refuted the allegations stating that some mischief-mongering students were trying to disrupt discipline in the institution.

About 50 students, who were not allowed into the college for not paying tuition fee, not wearing uniform and not attending weekly tests, staged a protest in front of the main gate on Wednesday.

The students, who were pursuing degree final year, said the management was collecting penalties ranging between Rs.100 and Rs.600 from each student and was using filthy language against girls.

“Students who arrive without uniform are asked to pay Rs.40 per day as penalty, if he or she is absent for weekly test the principal will collect Rs.100 penalty. Likewise, for delay in payment of term fee the student should pay Rs.500 as fine and if a student misbehaves, he should pay Rs.600,” said the agitating students.

The principal was not allowing students to attend college in civil dress even on birthdays and not granting leave, if any student fell sick, they alleged.

The management was collecting Rs.500 on the pretext of supplying study material and Rs.50 for issuing identity cards, but the material and ID cards were not issued till date, they alleged.

The students allege that the management had not completed syllabus in a few subjects and was threatening to fail them in practical examinations.

They appealed to Krishna University authorities to intervene in the matter and do justice to them.

When contacted, Principal B.S. Satyanarayana Reddy said the staff completed syllabus and were conducting revision classes. But, some students were trying to skip the classes and levelling false allegations.

“We are collecting fines from the students to control them and insisting on punctuality and wearing uniform as part of discipline.

Our effort is to get good results. We will not tolerate if any student is irregular in attending classes,” the principal said.
