Charminar MLA visits demolished sites

August 04, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:56 am IST - VIJAYAWADA:

Telangana legislator representing Charminar constituency Syed Ahmed Pasha Qadri on Wednesday made a whirlwind tour in the city to take a look at the demolition of masjids and dargahs as part of Krishna pushkarams.

Mr. Qadri came to city on the invitation of local All India Majils-e-Ittehad –ul-Muslimeen, Ahle Sunnatul Jamaat Forum and Muslim United Front. He visited the site of a masjid which was brought down for constructing the flyover at Ramavarappadu and later took a look at two dargahs — Hazrat Syed Ali Hussaini Shah Qadri Dargah and Shed Shah Qadri Dargah — which were demolished near Prakasam Barrage.

The legislator also visited the burial grounds near Kaleswara Rao market and took a look at the demolished compound wall of St. Peter’s Cathedral near Gandhi Hill. “It is the responsibility of the authorities to protect the places of historical importance. In stead of taking unilateral decisions, they should have invited the religious heads before taking decisions concerning the sentiments of people.”

He said any place of worship be it a church, temple, masjid or a dargah were close to people and questioned the need of celebrating festivals when places of worships were brought down in the name of development.
