The Communist Party of India-Marxist CPI(M) city unit has launched its ‘Poru baata’ (on agitation path) in all the three Assembly constituencies here in the city.

Party State secretariat member Y. Venkateswara Rao kick started the poru baata in the 58th division in Vijayawada (Central) and in 24th division in Vijayawada (East) constituencies, while party district secretary R. Raghu launched the yatra at Nehru Bomma centre in Vijayawada (West) constituency.

On the occasion, the CPI (M) leaders said that both the Central and State governments were eager to impose new taxes and hike the existing.

The prices of essential commodities skyrocketed and life became miserable for the common man. The hike in power tariff and fuel surcharges was breaking the back of the commoner.

Despite this increase the wages were not revised on par with the rising prices, they said.

The State and Central governments were neck deep in corruption, they alleged.

The public welfare was thrown to winds and painted a rosy picture of Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) programme and city development. In reality, the city was pushed into debt trap.

The Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) was unable to pay the salaries to its employees, they observed.

The MP and MLAs, who were supposed to be on the people’s side, remained mute spectators.

So, to educate the people and mount pressure on the government, the CPI (M) launched the ‘Poru baata’, they said.

The leaders interacted with the residents at Brahmarambapuram, Rajiv Colony, Swargapuri Road, One Town Kothapeta, KBN College area, Sundaraiah Nagar, Rajiv Nagar, UDA Colony and other areas.

Party city secretary Ch. Babu Rao presided over the yatra launched at Ajithsingh Nagar, while party city secretariat member Donepudi Kasinath presided over the programme in near Swargapuri. Near KBN College, U.V. Rama Raju presided over the programme.

Three teams would tour in three constituencies to understand the problems faced by the public.

The party would educate the people on government’s anti people and lopsided polices such as hike in LPG price, power surcharge, and failure to construct the houses under JNNURM as planned.
