The CPI has written an open letter to Chief Minister N. Kirna Kumar Reddy on his two years in office.
Releasing copies of the letter here on Tuesday, CPI city secretary Donepudi Sankar said the city received a raw deal under Mr. Kiran Kumar Reddy’s tenure. The city was pushed into a debt trap. People were left to fend for themselves in the whirlpool of problems. The Chief Minister, however, was rejoicing his two-year tenure in office, he alleged.
The government did not conduct elections to local bodies, including corporations. The special officers were ruling the roost and public voice was throttled, he alleged.

The government did not release Rs.174 crore under JNNURM programme and Rs. 40 crore under non-plan grants. Another Rs. 300 crore under 13th Finance Commission recommendations were also not released, he pointed out.
The VMC was planning to issue bonds worth of Rs. 400 crore by pledging Rs. 6,000 crore worth properties to clear debts and continue developmental works. Had the government released the dues, the VMC need not go for loans and bonds, he felt.
The prestigious BRTS project did not take off though crores of rupees were pumped into it. The government could not keep its promise on finding a permanent solution to Budameru floods. Many localities were marooned in floodwaters recently. The old city would inundate even if there were slight showers, as the STPs and drainage system were not in place as planned, he pointed out, adding that housing and RAY were some of the other failures of the government.
