The city police probing into the ‘baby kidnap’ case reportedly took an employee of the Old Government Hospital, who helped the accused in kidnapping the baby from the hospital on July 14, into custody.
The accused, M. Naga Malleswari and Raju, who allegedly whisked away the six-day-old infant from the incubator in the Special Care Unit in the hospital, were taken into custody in Avanigadda in the Krishna district.
Based on the confession made by the couple, police rounded up the hospital staffer .

“We suspect that the infant kidnap occurred with the connivance of some hospital staff. The investigation is leading towards ‘baby trafficking’ and we are probing the case in that angle. We will bust the racket soon,” a senior police official, who is monitoring the investigation of the sensational case, told
Police are trying to find how the abductors travelled to Avanigadda after whisking the boy from the hospital and are collecting the CCTV footages from Pandit Nehru Bus Station and the local railway station. “If the infant was kidnapped for trafficking, police are focussing to detect the origin of the racket, details of the racketeers, since how long the organised crime is being operated and how many babies were sold so far, whether it was an inter-State racket, buyers and other details,” the officer explained.
As per the call data available, more persons might have been involved in the racket. Police are retrieving the mobile phone call data of the suspects for the last few months to thoroughly investigate the case, the Central Crime Station police said.

Infant recovering
Meanwhile, the recovered baby who was re-admitted in the Special Care Unit in the Old Government Hospital was recovering. Doctors said that the health condition of the baby is good.
