Divisional Railway Manager Ashok Kumar said that the division, as per the directive of Minister for Railways Suresh Prabhu on the removal of unmanned level crossings in Indian Railways, was all set to complete the task in one year.
He said the passenger amenities continued to remain high on the agenda during the current fiscal. “As many as 14 ‘A1’ and ‘A’ category stations were identified for redevelopment to match international standards. The division identified five locations to handle the rush of pilgrims during the 12-day Krishna Pushkaram and provided temporary facilities such as sheds, additional booking counters, CCTVs, train indication boards, toilets and catering facilities for the benefit of the travelling public.

He said in terms of services, over 460 special trains were being run and 2,000 extra coaches attached to various trains. “As many as 55 express and passenger trains were provided with temporary stoppages during the river festival. High-speed Wi-Fi services have been introduced at Vijayawada.”
Mr. Kumar said the last four months of the current fiscal were challenging on account of a subdued scenario in the transport sector all over the country.
