The city police have cracked the whip on persons involved in cricket betting during the ongoing IPL matches. The West and Central Zone police have arrested 33 persons and opened suspect sheets against the accused. Police found that cricket betting is being organised through telephones and online money transactions. Police opened suspect sheets against the accused in the One Town, Two Town, Suryaraopeta, Krishnalanka, Machavaram, and Nunna police station limits.
According to West Zone Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) T. Hari Krishna, suspect sheets were opened against M. Mohan Rao, P. Ramesh, Parveen Kumar Jain, Gehlaut Bhawarlal, Y. Suresh, K. Satish, P. Srinivas, and V. Krishna in the One Town area. Police opened sheets against Y. Srinivasa Rao and M. Vijay Kumar in the Two Town police station limits.
In Suryaraopet police station limits, suspect sheets were opened against E. Srinivas Gupta, N. Nagaraju, S. Ravi Kumar, and N Srinivasa Rao, all residents of Krishnalanka, and also against T. Sridhar of Guntur district.

Central Zone ACP P. Satyanarayana Rao said the police opened sheets against N. Srinivasa Rao, P. Ravi, R. Prasad, U. Ramana Reddy, M. Nanda Kishore, P. Sai, D. Ramesh Reddy, K Bliss Raju, M. Srinivasa Rao, G. Durga Rao, U. Venkat Rao, R. Shiva Kumar, S. Rama Rao, B. Balaji, P. Venkatesh, and K. Nancharaiah. Instructions were given to all the Station House Officers to keep a vigil on the activities of the accused, said Mr. Rao. A few days ago, the Penamaluru police opened suspect sheets against 14 youths, some of them engineering students, for participating in bike races.
