3 members of dacoit gang arrested

The Prakasam police on Tuesday arrested three members of a dacoity gang at the busstand at Podili on Tuesday.

The seven-member gang had struck at the house a teacher in Addanki town in the district and decamped with gold and silver articles worth Rs. 4.60 lakh, Superintendent of Police K. Raghuram Reddy told reporters here.

A police party led by Addanki Inspector G. Srinivasa Rao recovered silver articles worth Rs. 70,000 and were on the look out for the remaining four members of the gang who were holding rest of the valuables robbed at knife point.

The assailants had also struck at houses in Nizamabad town and Narasaraopet in Guntur district and also in Bellary in Karnataka.

The arrested were P. Nageswara Rao (20), N.Siva (20), both from Tripurantakam and N.Prabhu from Cumbum in the district.

In another case, 14 motorcycles worth Rs. 4 lakh were recovered with the arrest of 28-year-old S. Baskarachari from Savalyapuram in Guntur district, at the bus station here on Tuesday, the SP said.

The accused had lifted the motorcycles from among other places Addanki, Podili, and Banganapalli, he added.
