The Krishna district and the Vijayawada Police booked cases against 160 persons for driving vehicles after consuming alcohol. The raids were conducted on Monday night.
The Krishna district police, under the supervision of Superintendent of Police Sarvasreshtra Tripathi, booked 606 cases, including 116 for overloading of vehicles, four cases for overspeed, 35 triple riding, 48 cases for not possessing necessary documents, 13 cases for not fastening seat belts and 241 cases on other charges.
“Out of 77 drunk and drive cases, 12 persons were produced in the court, which imposed ₹2,000 fine on each of them and awarded seven days imprisonment to the accused,” Mr. Tripathi said.

Counselling provided
The Vijayawada City Police, with the help of doctors, counselled the accused, in the presence of their family members, at the Vyas Complex on Tuesday.
“The traffic police played the video clippings of the accidents occurred due to human negligence and the travails of the victims during counselling. We request the vehicle drivers not to drive after consuming alcohol,” City Police Commissioner D. Gautam Sawang said.

Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) T.V. Nagaraju said the accused in drunk and drive cases would be penalised. Neuro Psychologist Pamarthi Krishna Das, Traffic Assistant Commissioner of Police T. Muralikrishna and others provided counselling to the accused.
