10-member dacoit gang strikes in city

Attacks four members of a family with stones; decamps with valuables worth Rs. 5 lakh at Kalpataruvu Colony

A 10-member dacoit gang struck at a house and attacked the inmates before escaping with cash and valuables worth Rs. 5 lakh at Kalpataruvu Colony in Rayanapadu under the Ibrahimpatnam police station limits, in the wee hours on Tuesday.

Four persons – K. Suresh, his wife Jayanthi, daughter Yasodha and son Teja Santosh – sustained injuries in the attack and were admitted in a private hospital where their condition was stated to be stable.

According to sources, five members of the gang entered the house at around 2 a.m. by breaking open the doors while the remaining members kept a watch outside. When the inmates woke up to the sounds and tried to retaliate, the gang members attacked them with stones.

Later, they tied up the family with ropes and ransacked the house before making good their escape with the valuables. The other members of gang waiting outside bolted the doors of the neighbouring houses to prevent anyone from coming out.

“The gang members spoke in Hindi and Marathi. Immediately, after entering the house they attacked Suresh and Teja with stones causing severe head injuries to both,” the police said.

Suresh runs a book depot at Pulipativari Veedhi in One Town in the city. The incident came to light only after the domestic help came to the house in the morning.

City Police Commissioner A. B. Venkateswara Rao, Deputy Commissioners of Police Tafsir Iqbal and Ashok Kumar and other officials visited the spot. The police have formed special teams to trace the gang.
