100 centres to be opened for issuing Aadhar cards in city

The enrolment drive of people for Aadhar cards will not be allowed at the post offices and private agencies like Karvy Consultancy office any more. The district administration has decided to open 100 centres soon in city by taking the services of a specially identified agency and the Civil Supplies Department will specially monitor this in the next three months.

The unique identification cards providing a social security number to the citizens are in high demand with people unable to grapple with big queues till now. The officials have found some discrepancies in the process and they decided to solve the problem by closely following it up.

The 100 centres to be opened in the next three to four days will be used to take the iris, thumb impressions and photographs of the families, who include children around 10 years of age.

The decision is taken after the district administration received instructions from the Civil Supplies Commissioner and other top officials for taking steps to cover all the people in unique identification project before March end next year.

Collector S.A.M. Rizvi and Joint Collector Gaurav Uppal, who are nodal and joint nodal officers for Aadhar cards, have reviewed the implementation of the programme already and they have ordered the Civil Supplies Department to put in place a mechanism to hasten the process of enrolment in city.

District Supply Officer T. Prabhakar Rao told

The Hindu that majority of the people in city are still to be covered under Aadhar and the 100 centres would be opened to enrol at least 6,000 persons per day in the coming drive. Till Thursday, post offices continued enrolment where they covered around 30,000 persons in the city while private agencies would have enrolled another 25,000 persons.

These centres were asked to stop enrolment following several complaints of irregularities in the process.

Mr. Prabhakar Rao said 70 per cent of the population in rural areas of Krishna district have already been covered under Aadhar cards enrolment with the help of State Bank of India facilities. The drive is nearly complete in Machilipatnam and Jaggaiahpet areas, while Pedana, Nuzvid and such areas need some more days of enrolment.
