Commissioner of Police D. Gautham Sawang on Tuesday said the police department would start an initiative called ‘Mahila Mitra’ to support women facing issues in the city.

Mr. Sawang was speaking at the valedictory of SPARKLIT-2K17, a one day students’ literature fest organised by Maris Stella College. He called upon the students to take part in activities other than classroom education for overall development.

Explaining about the Mahila Mitra programme, he said special teams would be constituted with women police and women welfare and rights activists as members under every police station to address the problems faced by women.
